A new office building of Toray Carbon Magic Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “TCM”) that had been constructed on the premises of TCM is competed. Part of the building is operated from October 1. (TCM is a part manufacturing and sales subsidiary company of Toray Industries, Inc. [head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Akihiro Nikkaku]). With the addition of the building, the work area of TCM becomes two and half times as large as the former work area. Moreover, we will beef up the functions of the head office factory further as our production base for trial and mass production of CFPR parts by adding post-processing and inspection equipment and introducing a new automatic warehouse.

Recently, applications of CFPP parts are getting wider from premium cars, including F1 cars, motorcycles, means of transportation, such as aircraft and trains, to medical examination equipment and life-innovation-related items, such as wheelchairs and artificial legs. To expand the CFRP part business (composite business), Toray acquired all shares of Dome Carbon Magic Co., Ltd. (presently TCM) of the Dome Group and made it their wholly owned subsidiary in April 2013. After TCM joined with the Toray Group, TCM’s superior design and technical abilities were added to the competitiveness of the high-quality materials of Toray and therefore the reputation and expectations for our products in the markets has risen, resulting in rapid increases in the requests for design, trial production and mass production of CFRP parts from not only old customers, such as the automobile industry, but also new customers, such as the aircraft industry and the life-innovation-related industries.

The Toray Group regards TCM as the core of the composite business. The group aims to open up new markets for CFRP parts and expand applications of CFRP parts other than the automobile industry in cooperation with Euro Advanced Carbon Fiber Composites GmbH (Germany) and Plasan Carbon Composites, Inc. (USA). The group aims at the dramatic expansion of the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) business, which is the goal of the midterm management project AP-G 2016 started from this April, by expanding its supply chain from carbon fiber, including large carbon fiber (the group acquired Zoltek Companies, Inc., this February) and intermediate materials to CFRP composites.
